Timor-Leste

Evaluating poverty reduction project with 3,000 food insecure and vulnerable households - addressing production, improved health and nutrition, increased capacity and participation of local organisations, and improved coordination between NGOs, the private sector and government.

Kenya

Developing curricula, establishing beekeeping training centres and training sector-specialists (beekeepers, food processors and extensionists) at a national agricultural college.

Developing national apiculture policy, promoting the sector, networking and strengthening stakeholder representation.

Undertaking field research with exemplary beekeepers to record indigenous beekeeping knowledge and traditional and contemporary beekeeping systems.

Scoping, planning, designing and budgeting projects for bilateral and multilateral funding opportunities; and establishing, delivering and reporting projects.

Malawi and Mozambique

Reviewing rural development programmes and recommending mechanisms for increasing production, strengthening value chains and promoting local services for 15,000 poor people vulnerable to shocks. 

Managing, evaluating and providing technical support to a large, bilateral, agriculture programme focussed on local and national producer organisations.

Strengthening programme design, implementation strategies and monitoring tools for a food production programme targeting extremely poor families and vulnerable groups.

Rwanda

Providing training to representatives of thirteen beekeeping cooperatives (reaching approximately 200 beekeepers) in three locations, and developing extension strategies for a commercial honey trader.

Providing technical support on supply systems and quality assurance for locally produced beehives. 

Tanzania

Managing a national apiculture development body addressing national planning, project development and management, community mobilisation, fundraising and beekeeping extension services.

Researching the influence of innovations on beekeepers’ livelihoods, and challenges for sustaining beekeeping livelihoods.

UK

Operating a commercial beekeeping enterprise, processing honey, developing brand; and packaging and marketing high-quality niche products. 

Researching apiculture-based livelihoods and bees and the environment; undertaking morphometric analysis and identifying bee races; and the publication of more than 40 research papers.

Preparing media material for specialist journals and magazines, and reference materials for field staff.

West Africa

Designing a multi-year, multi-million dollar project in Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to improve the livelihoods of rural women producers by connecting them to international value chains.
